Yes, I’m a single dad who needs a nanny for the summer.

But hire the stranded runaway bride who shows up on my doorstep in a wedding gown with no references, no skills, and no experience?

No one is that desperate.

Except within twenty-four hours, down-on-her-luck Veronica Sutton manages to charm my kids, my family, and half the population of Cherry Tree Harbor into believing she’s perfect for the job.

And for me.

It’s not that I can’t see the appeal–those baby blue eyes? The endless legs? That mouth made for trouble? But I’ve got enough on my plate, raising two kids on my own and keeping the family business alive. I don’t have the time or the inclination to fall for an outspoken city girl.

So I should have kept my hands to myself.

Holding her in my arms was a big mistake. Even worse? Spending the night together. She ignites a possessive fire in me that I’m finding hard to snuff out.

But the most unforgivable? Growing attached to the sound of her laugh, the scent of her skin, and the way her body wraps around mine in the dark.

At the end of the summer, she’ll be gone.
And if I’m not careful, she might run away with my heart.

My Summary of the Story:

Veronica Sutton always wanted a family, she was raised by her single mother all her life and felt rejected by her father and grandparents who never wanted to have anything to do with her. So her wedding day should be the happiest day when all of her dreams will come true right? But NOPE, she got a sext from her fiance instead, and it wasn’t even for her! Leaving her cheating fiance at the altar with a parting gift of course (a kick in the face, good on ya girl), she is now homeless, jobless, and totally broke. Still in her wedding dress, she took a chance to apply for a nanny job for a grumpy single dad in town. Austin, said grumpy man, refused to hire her, despite his sister’s persuasion, but ultimately took pity on her.

My Thoughts:

Oh gosh, I love the opening scenes in this book so much, the way Roni put her jerk fiance in his place was so cool. I really like Veronica as the FMC, she’s feisty, unapologetically honest, and can charm just about everyone in the town, except for Austin of course, but we know that’s not true. I like that she knows she’s better than just being a trophy wife or just a “nanny”. This girl let her man keep groveling (including asking her to be the nanny, even when he was so against it), and I'm all for it. And she was so good with the kids it was so cute!

Austin Buckley, oh boy, this man frustrates me so much, I could strangle him in a heartbeat. He was so unnecessarily mean at the beginning of the book, his grumpiness comes out as mean. But when I learned his backstory, it kinda made sense, the guy literally never had a break in his life. the one time he had a break, he got 2 bundles of joy that is his children. Add celibacy for about 7 years, no wonder he’s just a stick in the mud. And don’t get me started on his obliviousness at the end, my god the guy is dumb. But just like Ari said, the grovel is top-notch, 5 stars⭐️ The guy is a jealous bitch too, and do I enjoy it๐Ÿ˜‚

And can we give a shout-out to Xander? I read this series out of order, from Make-Believe Match, and now this. And my man Xander is the one who knocked some senses to both of his stupid brothers, I cannot wait to read his book next. I’d devoured this book so quick, it drew me out of my Mafia reading era, now I’m back into small-town and need to pick up all of her back-list.

Quotes:

"Guard your heart like it’s your home, she always said. Be careful who you let in."

“Asshole, I met her three weeks ago, and I’ll tell you right now, I know her better than you do, I treat her better than you do, and you can be damn sure I fuck her better.”

“Nothing of his will ever touch your skin again,”

“It’s me asking you to stay when you have every reason to go. It’s me admitting my mistake, thinking I could let you go without a fight. It’s me doing the thing that would make me happy, and hoping it will make you happy too.”

“Good, because someone once told me a love like this only happens once.”
