Blurb:

LUCIA
I used to be a mafia princess, but I ran from the Cosa Nostra after a rival syndicate killed my husband. I live like a normal person now. Atlas shows up at my club when everything in my life is finally coming together and I think it's fate. I've never trusted anyone with my darkest desires...until him.

Then I learn the man I love is everything I am running from and now he's my enemy.

ATLAS
I shut down my emotions two decades ago. I'm as much monster as man now. When I meet Lucia, she is light to my darkness, warmth to the chill in what is left of my soul. From her luscious curves to her eagerness for bedroom games, she is perfect for me. But when she finds out why I'm really in her city, she despises me. I'm used to being hated and feared. That won't stop me from claiming her as my own.

Because she needs my protection as much as I need her light and if I have to get her pregnant to keep her, we'll both enjoy every minute of it.

This is a stand alone mafia romance with a guaranteed HEA. No cliff hangers. No cheating.

CW: explicit intimacy, graphic violence, foul language, domestic violence (in the past), miscarriage (backstory), complicated family relationships

For readers who love morally grey heroes and devour mafia romance by authors like Cora Reilly, Michelle Heard and J.T. Geissinger.
My Summary:

Lucia Revello grew up as an Italian mafia princess who never had a voice in a very traditional family. She was married to a capo in Detroit, and though she was in love with her husband, Tino, she knew her husband never loved her and saw her as a vessel to have an heir. She was given the responsibility of looking after Tino's brother, Lenny, who suffered from a traumatic brain injury at the age of 12, which made him lack impulse control even when he was an adult. When Lucia was 7 months pregnant, he was pushed off the stairs by Lenny during one of his outbursts and she lost her baby. After this incident, her relationship with her husband became restrained, until one day Tino and his father get killed during the war between them with the Irish and Bratva. Lucia and Lenny were presumed dead, but they actually managed to escape to Portland. Once they settled in Portland, Lucia sent Lenny to be treated in a facility, as he became more erratic after he blamed himself for Lucia's miscarriages. Lucia decided to open a nightclub with the rest of the money that her husband left her, as she needed to generate enough income to be able to afford Lenny's care. She worked hard for the past 5 years, and she was thriving and successful.

Atlas Rokos is the enforcer of the Hades Brotherhood, a Greek mafia family that just moved to Portland to take over the area. He went to Lucia's nightclub one night to scout for information, and he was instantly attracted to her. He was a manwhore before he met Lucia, and after their one night together, he became so obsessed with her. He is known to be cold and ruthless since he was kidnapped by the Bratva when he was 10 years old. He was kept and tortured for a year before his uncle and brothers came to save him. Since then he never smiled or whistled (something he used to do before the kidnapping), but started smiling and became happier after he met Lucia. He will whistle to a certain song as a message, which infuriates Lucia sometimes. He is over-the-top possessive, anyone who even so much as breathes too close to Lucia, and he will be on a war path, even his own brothers.

After their one night turned into many nights, Atlas introduced her to his brothers and cousins. His brother warned him to be careful, as she would not be happy once she found out who they were. With the Bratva becoming involved in the area, Atlas can no longer delay the inevitable to tell Lucia the truth. He and his brother are there to take over the area, meaning he will need to take control of her club, either by buying it off her or made her a compliance partner and collecting tithe from her business. Lucia is immediately aware of what is going on once he sees Atlas arrive on her club with his men, and refuses to hear his explanation. She felt extremely betrayed and decided to go and see his brother, the "Anax" or leader to make a deal with him so he could get out of the situation and Atlas once and for all. Unfortunately, she found out that she was pregnant, and now her plan to leave is no longer possible...

My Thoughts:

Lucia is the highlight of this book, she’s feisty, smart, observant, and a curvy beauty. We see how she blossoms from being a docile mafia princess/wife to being an independent and successful entrepreneur. She also has a kind heart (looking after her brother-in-law who caused her miscarriage), but she also loves herself enough to put her freedom as a priority. I don't see it as selfish, she was extremely smart to think of bargaining with Zeus for her freedom, honestly, she could just abandoned Lenny after what he did, but she still looked after him even after her husband died. Atlas is one of the most unhinged possessive heroes I have ever seen in books, he’s definitely OTT, but it’s not out of place, since this is a dark mafia romance. He was a manwhore who had a dark tragic past, but meeting Lucia turn him 180 literally overnight. And his relationships with his brothers and cousins are so wholesome, I love it when he brings Lucia to meet them.

These two connect first with sex, but then it goes beyond that, this is the kind of instalove that I can accept from a book, there’s progress in their relationship before they know they are in love, not just lust. Lucia has been hurt by her first marriage, not only did she lose her baby but also by the lack of love from her husband and family. She then dedicated all of her time to her business to be able to afford Lenny’s care and her future. That’s why when Atlas finally showed her what he was really there for, my heart broke for her, I was so mad, I don’t even know how she will ever forgive him! But in the end, the ending satisfied me, did he need more grovel? Probably yes, but in his own way, he knew what he did was never to harm her, he just didn’t know the full side of her story. And I am happy with how it turned out.

Is this book perfect? No, I think it could be chopped up to 75 pages by cutting some of the smut. Honestly, there are so many spicy scenes, though it was written really well, it's becoming repetitive after a while. But did I enjoy it? Immensely!

I picked this from BookSprout just based on the accidental pregnancy tagline, a trope that I love so much. I put it off until the last minute because I was intimidated by the size, it’s freaking 375 pages and almost 50 chapters, I was dreading it. But I was so wrong, this is such a great mafia book, it has everything I like in a mafia romance. I can’t believe I never heard from this author, I will definitely be checking out her other book. Super highly recommended!
