Blurb:

Sergei

Home,

Bratva is my home.

My sanctuary from the past.

The only place where a killing machine like me belongs.

Sometimes, my demons come rushing back,

And I feel out of control, full of rage,

Close to losing myself completely.

Until a broken, injured woman stumbles onto my path,

Awakening my protective instincts,

And sending my demons to sleep.

Keeping her prisoner is my only option.

If she leaves,

My darkness will resurface,

And there will be no escaping it this time.

Angelina

Escape,

That’s all I can do,

Only to end up in the hands of a crazed killer.

Now, I’m fighting to stay away from my enemies,

And trying to not fall for a man I shouldn’t want.

But what will happen when we both reveal our hidden truths?

*Hidden Truths is a full-length novel with several open-door steamy scenes, no cheating and a guaranteed HEA.

This is the third book in Perfectly Imperfect mafia series. Each book in this series features a different couple and can be read as a standalone, but for maximum enjoyment, follow the recommended reading order.

My Summary of the Story:

Angelina Sandoval is the daughter of a Mexican Cartel Leader who was just murdered by his business partner, Diego Rivera. Now Diego wants to marry her so he can take over her father’s business smoothly. Angelina’s grandma smuggled her to Chicago in a drug delivery truck to the Italians, which is intercepted by the Russian Bratva. She was saved by Sergei Belov, the Bratva’s negotiator who suffers from PTSD and severe mental health conditions that make him dangerous but has a strong protective instinct, and Angelina’s poor condition triggered this. Angelina tried to hide her identity, little did she know that Sergei knew who she was and planning to keep her until she told him the truth. While staying with Sergei, she learned about Sergei’s condition and discovered that she could help him calm down during one of his episodes. They slowly fall in love as Angelina learns more about Sergei’s past as a black op for the government, and his ex-wife who attempted to kill him. Unfortunately, Diego is still looking for her, and it’s not gonna be long until he does find her….

My Thoughts:

Before my second read, I had mixed feelings about this book, in my memories, I remember this book didn’t really leave a lasting impression on me. I just remembered this was the first book I read that has a hero with mental conditions like Sergei, and I never encountered such conditions in real life, so I don’t know the accuracy of this story, therefore, I won’t judge it based on that. This second time around with audio, I came to enjoy the story and understand how Sergei’s condition was caused by his trauma while he was working as a hitman. Basically, Sergei has a condition caused by his PTSD where he sometimes loses his awareness, he’s still conscious but detached from reality, and he could be extremely dangerous while he’s having this kind of episode. He had accidentally killed his own friend who tried to approach him while he was zoning out in the past. Meeting Angelina in her poor state (severely starved and weak just like the girls he failed to save in the past), triggers his protective instinct, and she is the only one who can bring him out of his episode. His love for Angelina makes him extremely protective towards her, and he will do anything to protect her from any threat, real or imagined (as Felix put it into his own words), he even tries to kill some random guy for bumping into Angelina by accident. So, yeah, it’s literally touch her and you’ll die.

Sergei & Angelina Art by IG:@manuelasoriani

There are a lot of things a like about this book, Sergei’s relationship with Felix is my favorite, it was so funny how he called him Albert all the time just to piss him off. Also with Roman Petrov (the hero from Book 1 Painted Scars), we learn that he’s Roman half brother. It’s hilarious to see Roman keep shitting on him as he slaughters the Bratva’s business partner with his unhinged behavior, and Sergei just didn’t care. And the best part about this book is Sergei’s seemingly suicide mission to save Angelina by infiltrating Diego’s compound by himself. He’s so badass and I love the chapter so much, I can read it over and over again. Look at this beautiful artwork that captured what I imagine the scenes look like.
